Montgomery’s “Bolivar Troop” Company H in the 1st Mississippi Cavalry. 1st Cavalry Regiment was assembled during the spring of 1862. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Carroll. Tishomingo, Itawamba, Quitman, Noxubee, Bolivar, and Pontotoc. The unit served in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, then was assigned to W. Jackson’s, Ross’, Cosby’s, and F. Armstrong’s Brigade, Department of Alabama. It contained 22 officers and 220 men in July, 1862 and confronted the Federals in various conflicts in.
