WWII US M1907 LEATHER RIFLE SLING. FOR’03 SPRINGFIELD OR M1 GARAND. DOUBLE MARKED MILSCO 1944. This WWII US M907 Leather Rifle Sling belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This sling was on a WWII US M1 Garand rifle used in one of his displays. This particular sling shows only light use/wear and the tan leather is slightly dry but remains solid/supple overall The sling is complete with both the correct parts (see photos). The leather strapping has no elongated holes and both leather keepers are present/intact (see photos). The fittings are steel (as opposed to the earlier WWI brass fittings) indicating WWII manufacture and both remain securely attached (see photos). This sling is double marked with MILSCO 1944 stamped to the leather below each fitting (see photos). This WWII US M1907 leather sling remains solid/complete showing only light use/wear. It makes an excellent presentation and would be perfect for a display on the appropriate US rifle. It is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Original WWII USGI issue M1907 1944 dated leather sling made by Milsco. Is marked Milsco with 1944 below both steel claw hooks. The leather is solid and all sewing is intact including the sling keepers. There is no indication of dry rot. The rivets on the claw hooks are tight. The sling has seen use as indicated by numerous dents, dings and minor scratches which does not effect the overall integrity of the leather. The leather retains quite a bit of the original light color. The 1907 sling was used extensively in WWII on the M1 Garand, 1903 and 1903A3 rifles. This is a sling from my collection and guaranteed original. PLEASE NOTE: The leather is 77 years old and in remarkably good condition. It should only be used for display purposes on a rifle. Under no circumstances should it be used to carry any firearm due to the age. In addition the leather should not be folded at any point except where it has been used through the years. The leather stitching is solid all over. The one metal buckle loop, both double claw hooks and all six rivets holding the hooks onto the sling are steel. The rivets are solidly attached, keeping the claw hooks tight on the leather sling strap. There is no movement of the claw hooks at all. Both keepers are solid and present. The MILSCO 1943 stamping is very clear on both sling straps. The long leather part is solid the entire length without any cracking I can see. I does have some rubbed places in the center section but front and back have no cracks, especially between the claw holes. The leather is supple and it is not dried out. The 2d, smaller length of sling is also solid, but it does have minor cracks between three or four of the sixteen sets of claw holes. All the leather is present and the cracks are surface only, minor. All in all, this 78 year old sling looks really good. I have not cleaned it or attempted to treat the rubbed spots, just have just wiped the sling off to removes some of the decades of dust, etc. It came out of an old WW II military collection. Nice condition for its 80 plus years. There is some cracks and some weakness across some of the holes but still serviceable. Lightly marked, I can make out the M for MILSCO and the 194?
