Could this be a unicorn? The famed German web sling that many experts say does not exist? Maybe not, but this sling is very unusual and I cannot find any similar types anywhere. The swivel looks very similar to German designs, especially the MG 34 and to a lesser extent the Gew 98, but the hook end is way different that the 34 (and not on the 98). I think it is fairly early given the delicate condition of the leather, and the fact that the button studs are leather and sewn in to the sling. There is a double line the length of the sling on both sides that may help with identification, and I think this was a lighter tan color at one point. For sale here is a nice looking WW2 Era Brown Leather Mauser Sling. The sling is complete with steel buckle, steel stud, keeper, and blued Simson marked swivel. The sling does not appear to be marked. The sling is nice, but does show age, use, wear, and some surface cracking. This is in good condition and will work for use or display.
