October 17, 2019
Indian War Era US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Sling – 4th Pattern – Original – Nice Condition. This is the Early Longer, 4th Pattern Sling, with the wide prong hook at one end and a brass stud loop at the other end. The sling is approximatley 1 1/4″ wide x 70″ long. The sling has the oval holes. This sling is made from a single length of leather, NOT the salvage civil war musket slings that were sewen together. The leather is soft and supple. Some surface cracks, no crazing on the surface of the leather. No breaks through the leather. It has the original sling keepers. Still has the original dark brown color. The sling is faintly marked with the inspector initals at the tip of the sling. There is also an extremely faint Rock Island Arsenal marking, barely visible. The sling is used, please see photo’s for condition. The age of the leather, will make the sling weaker than when it was new, and may not be able to support the weight of the weapon.
