Vintage hand-tooled leather rifle sling featuring an intricate Western desert scene and bold carved “ARIZONA” lettering. This piece displays detailed storytelling typical of mid-century Western leathercraft and appears to be handmade and signed DVP. The carved imagery includes a covered wagon pulled by a four-horse team, a revolver, wagon wheel, cactus, desert plants, and a coiled snake. The tooling demonstrates impressive craftsmanship and layered composition. Notably, the wagon scene depicts four horses rendered in perspective, with the rear pair partially emerging from behind the front horses-an advanced design detail rarely seen in basic souvenir leatherwork. The piece also shows skilled leatherworking techniques including beveled carving, background matting, and stamped texturing, such as the star-stamp pattern used to create the snake’s scaled surface.
