This is a vintage, authentic, USGI. M1907 leather sling for the M1903 Springfield rifle. This sling is approximately 104 years old! I have read that to gauge the authenticity of items like this, the brass keepers(frogs) are the most important. You’ll notice close-up photos, and they look like they are connected with brass rivets. I bought this item from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) who received it from US Army warehouses, probably attached to a rifle. The slings were detached, folded carefully and put in storage. I can show a copy of my receipt upon request. This is the real deal. This was a US government issue leather sling for World War I. Provenance is: US Government, to the CMP, to me. It was in storage, possibly, for 50 years or more! It was pretty dry when I obtained it, so I soaked it in pure neatsfoot oil, the same oil people use for reins, saddles and other leather equipment for horses. There are no tears evident. There are some superficial cracks from military usage, and age. The neatsfoot oil made this leather very soft and supple. That said, this is a for a museum piece rifle, or for a collector to put on their M1903, or M1917 World War I rifle. I would not use this sling to “loop up” on the target range! BONUS : included free with these sights are some National Rifle and Pistol Match memorabilia from Camp Perry, Ohio. This will be in the form of stickers and/or a commemorative hat pin. But don’t worry, you will not be returning this! Just check my Feedback. Feedback : I leave feedback after it is left for me. Thank you for looking! This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\WW I (1914-18)\Original Period Items\United States\Other US WWI Original Items”. The seller is “61daniel” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
