You are looking at a super rare Civil War Confederate Maynard Carbine Leather Sling rifle holder. This is a southern made carbine sling for the Confederate States of America. You can see two of these slings in photo’s of a Private and Orderly Sergeant In Captain F. Montgomery’s “Bolivar Troop” Company H in the 1st Mississippi Cavalry. 1st Cavalry Regiment was assembled during the spring of 1862. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Carroll. Tishomingo, Itawamba, Quitman, Noxubee, Bolivar, and Pontotoc. The unit served in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, then was assigned to W. Jackson’s, Ross’, Cosby’s, and F. Armstrong’s Brigade, Department of Alabama. It contained 22 officers and 220 men in July, 1862 and confronted the Federals in various conflicts in. Later the regiment was involved in the operations in. And Middle Tennessee where its casualties were 2 killed and 27 wounded. It went on to fight in North Georgia and. But only a few surrendered in May, 1865. The field officers were Colonel R. Pinson, Lieutenant Colonel F. Montgomery, and Majors John S. The Maynard rifle and carbine came into Confederate service as a result of. All in the critical period of late 1860 and early 1861. 5000 first Model Maynard arms manufactured between 1859 and 1861. Since most of the Maynards were. Carbine length, most were issued to independent. Panies of Mississippi Cavalry. A few, evidently the rifles. Were issued to three infantry companies -Samuel. Lee Enfield 303 SMLE leather rifle sling. This is an Original vintage sling NOT A REPRODUCTION. I twisted the sling up and coiled it in the photos to show you how soft and supple the leather truly is!! This sling has had a leather conditioner added to it and sealed for many months to rehydrate. It is stronger and more supple than brand new leather belts I use for my CAS gear!! Itll make its new owner a dependable leather WW1 period sling for many more years. In the photo is the rifle it originally was installed on. (Rifle not included in this sale). The rifle was parted out. So I no longer have need for the sling. I do not see many of these out there anymore!! But originals are getting harder to come by… This is an honest well maintained Sling and it will give any level collector pride to have it on their 303.
